Bringing the Zoo to You

Let your kids take the lead or use these videos to learn more about animals! While a lot of zoos are closed temporarily, many are putting up Live Cams of their exhibits and there are always resources online to learn about animals as a family! Here's some screen time you can feel good about:

Online resources:

National Geographic Kids

Our Favorite video: Learn about endangered species in the Mission Animal Rescue series. We love the Wolf video!

SciShow Kids on Youtube

Our Favorite video: Why don't Animals Need Sunscreen? answers questions I didn't know I had!

Let Elmo take the lead with an episode about Penguins!

If you're in it for the long haul, this documentary on animals who have interesting coloring/appearances will blow your kid's minds! And the soothing narrator might just win you an early nap time.

Live Webcams of animals in zoos and aquariums:

San Diego Zoo

Highlight: Invite San Diego's African Penguin Colony into your living room.

Georgia Aquarium

Highlight: Their jellyfish live cam is incredibly peaceful.

National Zoo (our local beloved Smithsonian)

Highlight: Watch our largest local land mammals with the elephant cam! Hint: Volunteers are steering the cams to aim directly at all the Elephant fun during regular business hours, so you'll see more during the day than you would if you try taking a peek at night.

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Highlight: The Coral Reef Cam is an at-home view of a whole ecosystem.

Houston Zoo

Highlight: Check out the Giraffe cam for some long-necked fun!
