Food and Beverage Manager

 

Job Description

The Lane is a Family Social Club opening in Ivy City in February 2020. We are seeking an energetic and experienced Food & Beverage Manager to join our management team. This person will join the team ahead of opening and will take the lead on menu creation, inventory planning, and cafe setup as well as hiring and training staff to support the cafe.

This is a unique opportunity to create and own a Food & Beverage program for a highly anticipated business that has received significant attention and interest from the DC community. It will be a multi-faceted role including day to day cafe management, event planning and facilitation, and educational cooking classes/events for kids and parents. This person should love food and the opportunity to develop and manage a highly curated menu that will delight adults, many of whom have eaten at all of the city’s best restaurants, while also delivering delicious and healthy options to their kids. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Create and oversee a breakfast/lunch centric menu within a counter service style operation

  • Source ingredients for items to be prepared on site as well as certain pre-made items (eg bagels and pastries) from outside vendors, local when possible

  • Oversee a beverage program including a highly curated coffee, beer, and wine menu

  • Build and manage a cafe team including hiring, training, scheduling, and day-to-day support

  • Shape and maintain an environment that emphasizes teamwork, accountability, and pride for the experience we’re delivering to customers

  • Create cafe policies and ensure staff are following them on a day-to-day basis

  • Interact with customers to solicit feedback on menu items and service

  • Work closely with the management team to establish and track operational, financial, and customer metrics - quickly pivot when needed to ensure we’re meeting customer expectations and financial projections

 

Requirements

  • 6-8 years experience in food and beverage, culinary, event management or related professional area

  • 2-4 years managing other people within a food service environment

  • Washington, DC Food Safety manager certified

  • Ability to precisely forecast and track inventory (food and dry goods) - and continually adjust ordering to maximize bottom line

  • Ability to develop and execute a limited-service menu and all associated back-of-house and front-of-house responsibilities

  • Experience managing a POS system

  • Ability to use judgment on when to multi-task vs when to delegate tasks 

  • Superb organization and communication skills 

  • Ability to create and analyze reports - and review with ownership to make key decisions on the cafe’s operation

  • Available to work evenings and weekends

Operations Manager

Job Description

The Lane is a Family Social Club opening in Ivy City in February 2020. We are seeking an energetic and creative Operations Manager to join our management team. This person will join the team ahead of opening and will take the lead on hiring and training staff, setting up schedules, and developing an exciting programs calendar to delight guests.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the initial management team for a highly anticipated business that has received significant attention and interest from the DC community. It will be a multi-faceted role including day to day site management, event planning and facilitation, and program coordination. This person should love people (especially kids), facilitating activities, managing a team and most importantly be excited to bring fun to DC’s families. 

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily delivery of a premium experience to all members and patrons of The Lane.

  • Create an atmosphere of fun and community in line with The Lane’s brand promise

  • Manage a team of floor staff responsible for facilitating activities, welcoming guests, and ensuring safe play

  • Oversee the delivery of superior customer service to all customers and potential customers of The Lane

  • Coordinate the scheduling, logistics, and execution of private events as well as public activities

  • Assist in on-boarding all floor staff including: recruiting, hiring, developing training materials and executing trainings

  • Perform daily inspections to maintain brand standards for cleanliness and function of play equipment

  • Work closely with the management team to establish and track operational, financial, and customer metrics - quickly pivot when needed to ensure we’re meeting customer expectations and financial projections

Requirements

  • At least 3 years experience in hospitality, retail, education or other customer-facing management position

  • Strong people management skills

  • Logistics-oriented, hyper-organized, and efficient problem-solver

  • Superb organization and communication skills 

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Experience managing a POS system

  • Available to work evenings and weekends

Our guest experience team members are the heart and soul of The Lane - responsible for making it a happy place for everyone who visits. We are looking for individuals excited to jump into a fast-paced, dynamic, high-energy environment. We love people who bring their own personality to delivering an individual spin on a fantastic brand experience.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the opening team for a highly anticipated business that has received significant attention and interest from the DC community. It will be a multi-faceted role including reception check-in, play oversight, activity execution and coordination, and customer service. This person should love people (especially kids), facilitating activities, and most importantly be excited to bring fun to DC’s families. 

Responsibilities

  • Welcome guests in a friendly, helpful and informative manner

  • Be up-to-date on and able to communicate all aspects of The Lane’s operation (activity schedule, bookings, policies, etc)

  • Check-in guests, assist in membership purchases, booking parties and events, and completing waivers

  • Ensure the safety, engagement, and fun of all children and guests present at The Lane

  • Maintain a safe, clean, happy environment consistent with The Lane’s brand standards

  • Usher all guests in navigating the space, finding activities or items as needed

  • Assist with setup and execution of all events - private and public

  • Provide superior customer service to all guests - resolve conflicts with empathy, be proactive, demonstrate kindness and care

  • Complete kitchen prep lists in a timely manner

  • Preparing hot and cold food to order

  • Open, maintain, and close the dish, prep, and storage areas

  • Identify food quality through taste, texture, color and odor.

  • Wash, dry, and store wares

  • Maintaining a safe and sanitary work space in keeping with DC DOH requirements
